Episode Two: Discoveries

Jordan pulled up in front of Joe's house exactly on time. He jumped out of his car, arms laden with bags of Chinese takeout.

On the inside, Donnie saw the car pull up and opened the front door. "I'll bet you anything he comes in here—"

Jordan suddenly appeared in front of him. "Hi D!"

"Like that," Donnie finished, barely batting an eye.

"Having fun?" Danny asked, rolling his eyes.

Jordan grinned. "You bet! Man, I can go anywhere in like 2 seconds flat! Less than that!"

"Don't wear yourself out," Jonathan cautioned, taking one of the bags from his brother. "You don't know your limits."

"Jonathan's right," Danny said, motioning for them to join him at the dining room table. "We have to figure out exactly what we can do and what our limits are so we don't get ourselves into trouble."

"How'll we do that?" Donnie asked, reaching for an egg roll.

"Can we eat first," Jordan asked, "I'm starved!"

"Just think about it while you eat," Danny suggested. "Jon, pass the soy sauce please."

"Okay," Jonathan muttered, both hands occupied an egg roll. The packet of soy sauce floated into the air and landed neatly in front of Danny's plate.

Jordan choked on his food. Donnie's mouth fell open, luckily he'd just swallowed what he had in there. Danny just smiled. "Looks like we found Jon's power."

Jonahan looked up. "What?"

"You... you passed the-" Jordan spluttered, still trying to clear the obstruction from his throat.

"Don't talk with your mouth full," Jonathan admonished, mistaking Jordan's difficulty for rudeness.

Danny shook his head. "Jon, you passed me the soy sauce without touching it. Your hands were full."

"What?" Jonathan thought about that for a moment, then his eyes widened and his egg roll fell from nerveless fingers. "What?!"

"You that was cool, Rinse, do it again!" Donnie ordered.

"I...I can't! I don't know how I—"

"Sit on your hands," Danny instructed.

"Yeah you like that hand-sitting thing don't you?" Donnie muttered. He was ignored.

Jonathan did as he was told.

"Now... Pick up the soy sauce and give it to Jordan."

Jonathan swallowed hard, his eyes jumping nervously from the soy sauce, to Jordan, to Danny, and back again.

"Go on, just do it. Just concentrate, and pick it up," Danny soothed.

"This is so cool!"Donnie breathed, his eyes riveted on the small packet of sauce. He watched in amazement as it once again floated up into the air and landed right in front of its intended recipient. "Jon, you rule man!"

Jonathan looked up, his face pale. "Whoa...."

"Okay then, you're telekinetic," Danny said with finality. "That could come in handy."

Jonathan shook his head. "This is just too weird.... I can't handle this...." And he vanished into thin air.

Jordan shrieked and jumped out of his seat, staring at where Jonathan had just been. "Where'd he go?!"

"I'm right here," came Jonathan's voice, still shaky. "What's the matter with you?"

"What... who...." Jordan looked around wildly. "Where?!"

"Right here."

Donnie stared at Jonathan's supposedly empty chair. "He's still sitting there Jay. In his chair."

Danny smiled. "Telekinesis and invisibility. How about that?"

"What?"

"You're invisible Jon," Donnie sighed, reaching for the Kung Pao. "We can't see you."

"I'm... oh. Well how do I—"

"I dunno," Donnie shrugged. "Don't worry about it, you'll probably reappear later."

Jordan sat back down slowly and tried to ignore the food that moved around by itself next to him. "Okay.... This is cool, this is okay.... How did you know where Jon was, Donnie, can you see him?"

"Nope. His voice is coming from right there, it was pretty obvious."

"Oh." Jordan jumped as Jonathan, still very invisible, began dishing some food onto his own plate and his brother's.

"Eat, Jordan, you're the one who said you were hungry," said the disembodied voice.

Jordan just paled further. Danny sighed a bit. "I think Jay's going into shock."

"You think?" Donnie repeated as he dug into his dinner, sounding disinterested. "Neat."

"Come on, Jordan," Danny said soothingly, "Let's go into the other room and lie down, okay?"

"Lie down?" Jordan didn't protest when Danny lifted him to his feet and half-carried, half-dragged him into Joe's living room and plopped him down next to Joe, who was draped over the arm of the couch.

"That's right, just lean on Joe for a while, he won't mind."

"Okay...."

"Is he okay?" Jonathan asked concernedly, and Danny whirled around, startled.

"Oh! You're visible again!"

"I am?" Jonathan looked down at his hands. "I could see myself the whole time. How do I know when I'm invisible?"

Danny shrugged. "We'll tell you."

"Oh. Okay. I have to learn to control it though," he fretted. "I can't go around vanishing in public."

"We'll work on that," Danny assured him. "In the meantime, just relax."

"Relax," Jordan muttered from the couch, hs eyes unfocused. "Relax, he says. We're all freaks of nature and he wants us to relax."

Jonathan grimaced suddenly. Danny looked at him sharply. "What?"

"I don't know... my head hurts."

"It just started hurting?"

"Well... no, I've had a headache since we left the studio, but it's... getting worse. There's buzzing in my ears."

"Are you guys gonna eat or can I finish this off?" Donnie called from the dining room. He was ignored.

Danny guided Jonathan to sit down next to Jordan. "What kind of buzzing?"

"I don't know... in my ears. Like... static, or something." He closed his eyes.

Joe's eyes widened as he heard what Jonathan had said. A buzzing in his ears.... Maybe he can hear me! The thought cheered him.

He glanced over at his own motionless body and made a face. They'd just dumped him there, hadn't even bothered to move him since they'd gotten here. When he got back into his body he wouldn't be able to feel his limbs.

"Jonathan," he said again, his face close to Jonathan's ear. "Hey Jon, c'mon, can you hear me? It's not buzzing, it's me! It's Joe!"

Jonathan's eyelids fluttered, but he didn't respond. Joe let out an annoyed snort and SCREAMED into Jonathan's ear. "HEY JON!"

Jonathan's eyes flew open and he leapt off the couch, shrieking in pain, hands clamping over his ears. "Ow, shut up shut up STOP IT!"

Danny yelped in surprise, as did Jordan, who rolled off the couch onto the floor. Donnie came running into the room, still holding his fork. "What the hell—?"

Joe excitedly fell to his knees beside Jonathan. "You heard me? You can hear me?"

"Yes I can hear you," Jonathan moaned, "Quit yelling in my ear."

Danny shot a concerned look to Donnie and Jordan. "Jon... nobody's talking."

"Sure they are," he muttered, slowly removing his hands from his ears. "Joe is."

"You hear me!" Joe threw his arms around Jonathan, only to fall right through him. "Oops."

"Joe?" Donnie said slowly, glancing over at the body on the couch. "Jon, he's out cold, he's not talking."

"He is too," Jonathan argued. "He yelled at me."

Jordan, who had struggled back up onto the couch, let out a humorless chuckle. "I believe you Jon. Why not? I'll believe anything."

"Jon, tell them I fell out of my body!"

Jonathan looked around, confused. "Tell them what!?"

"I fell out of my body! Tell them!"

"He says... he says he fell out of his body."

"Uh-huh," Jordan said. "Okay, sure. Out of his body. Makes total sense."

"No really!" Joe insisted. "I think my power is that I can leave my body but the lightning zapped me out and I don't know how to get back in!"

"Oh... that's unfortunate," Jonathan said, a hand flying up to his forehead. "My head really hurts."

"Jon, what's unfortunate," Danny asked, kneeling in front of him and speaking softly.

"He can't figure out how to get back in his body. The lightning zapped him out."

"So he's here? Right now?"

"Uh-huh."

"He's been here? The whole time?"

"Guess so."

Danny thought about this for a moment. "Can you see him?"

"Nuh-uh."

"Look for him," Danny said simply. "Follow his voice and see if you can locate him."

"My head really hurts...," Jonathan whimpered.

"Just do this and then you can rest, I promise." He turned and spoke to the air. "Joe, start talking."

Joe froze. "Uhhh...."

"Just say anything," Jonathan said wearily. "Babble."

Joe shrugged. "Okay.... I uhhh... pledge allegiance to the flag of the united straights of America, and to the republic for Richard Stands, one nation, under God, individible, with liberty and jump suits for all?"

"Keep talking." Jonathan's eyes were on him but not. Joe had the feeling Jonathan was staring right through him.

"Uhmmm.... Going downstairs on Christmas eve, I saw a sight that you just wouldn't believe. Saint Nick, by the fireplace, dusting off his booty with a—"

"I see you!" Jonathan suddenly shouted, his eyes finally finding Joe's. Then his face clouded with pain. "And I think my brain just exploded."

Before anyone could say anything, Jonathan toppled over in a dead faint.
