A few days after Sita escaped with Melody Wildrik was looking over his collection of rocks when he heard the phone ring. Unfortunately he didn't answer it in time. To make it worse the only other person home was his sister Koryn.
"Hello," Koryn said.
"Hi this is Thala Nuehousner, is Will in?"
"Hold on a minute."
Koryn then went upstairs and knocked on Will's door.
"Yeah Koryn."
"Some girl to talk to you. Sounded like Salad or something?"
"Real funny Koryn," Wildrik chuckled.
Soon as his sister was out of the way he tapped the button for the phone.
"Yeah Thala."
"Who was it that answered as it is?"
"That was Koryn you know my sister. Something up?"
"You know that area in the Burgenau Hills where we camped that first time. I want to check that one spot for more fossils."
"I'll pick you up with my truck."
"OK I'll be ready for you."
Wildrik then hung up and headed downstairs.
"Koryn, you going to be ok until mom gets home. Thala and I are going on a hiking expedition."
"Wildrik, you know mom gets upset when you leave me alone," Koryn said.
Wildrik suddenly got an idea. He grabbed his wrist phone and dialed a number.
"Unakan City Community Center."
"Adria Ninjao please in the pool."
"This is Adria."
"Adria, is Melody out of the hospital yet?"
"Not yet Will. Why do you ask?"
"I have to meet Thala and well my mom isn't home and I figured maybe Koryn could hang with Melody for a while."
"No such luck Will. You can bring her by here though."
"Ok Thanks Adria," Wildrik said.
Wildrik quickly ported her over to the Community Center before he hopped into his truck and went over to Thala's house to pick her up. He saw a ton of equipment next to her.
"You sure packed a lot compared to last time."
"This is a serious trip Will," Thala said as she swallowed a quick pill.
"You feeling ok?"
"Yeah just a killer migraine that's all. It started about 9am this morning."
"I'm surprised you wanted to go on this expedition. Even a normal headache can be life altering."
"You sound like your speaking from experience."
"I am." After all the headache I had right before I became a ranger was certainly life altering.
Wildrik quickly loaded the mountain of stuff Thala had packed which almost overloaded the truck since he had packed his gear as well.
They soon arrived in the hills with Wildrik driving all the way to the area where he had encountered the fossil the last time. Thala started out by pitching her tent.
"I see you bought a new one," Wildrik commented remembering how her old one had gotten slashed the last time they had gone there.
"This one is for my equipment. Soon as I get this one up I'll pitch the tent I will be sleeping in."
Wildrik meanwhile set up his own tent.
I wonder if the headache Thala is having is at all like the ones the other rangers and I had right before we received our powers. I better keep my eyes peeled for a clue.
After pitching her tents Thala went to work on the cliff while Wildrik kept an eye peeled on the situation with Thala and also checked for rocks. Shortly before sundown Thala suddenly sat down and held her head.
Power of the Phantom Universe, Power of the Phantom Universe, Power of the Phantom Universe.
"Thala, something wrong?" Wildrik asked her.
"Just another headache Will. No biggie," Thala responded.
"I thought the same thing about a headache once while rock collecting and my life hasn't been the same since."
"Wildrik, you're acting as if you can help me with my headaches but I doubt you can."
"Thala, I may just be able to help you with your headaches. Sometimes a headache is caused by something trying to get free. If you allow it to get free the headache goes away."
Right then Jolik showed up with a platoon of Tylai.
"Greetings my friend. Time to say goodbye."
"Don't count on it Jolik. Come one you and me one on one."
"Using what weapon ranger?" Jolik asked grabbing his whip.
"This for starters," Wildrik growled. "Ranger Astro Morph, Power of the Gold Galaxy." Goddesses please forgive me for my transgression.
Thala was amazed by her boyfriends sudden transformation.
Wildrik is a ranger. I never suspected he could be a ranger. Who among his other friends could be the other rangers. I wonder if he could have slipped a clue to me concerning my headaches.
Thala then went off to one side as Sita already morphed ported in.
Let's hope this works. "Ranger Astro Morph, Power of the Phantom Universe."
Thala was surprised when her coveralls were replaced by a gray and white Ranger suit with a fancy vest like apparatus over her basic uniform. She activated the device and it caused her to almost vanish she also noticed a twin edged katana on her belt. She then ran back to the battlefield and started to take on several of the Tylai while they didn't know she was there.
"Gang, did you notice an odd flicker around here?" Xelia inquired.
"I didn't why do you ask?" Radha stated.
"Because I thought I saw something but it could be nothing," Xelia tried to brush it off.
"Any of you seen Thala since you arrived. She was having headaches all day and she disappeared suddenly right after the Tylai arrived."
"I wonder," Sita said.
"You wonder what Sita?" Valdi asked her.
"A few weeks ago I helped Articula, E-Berg, and Alpha translate a prophecy that foretold a few things. The first part foretold the ten of us. The 2nd part foretold our Meruda powers, the third part was written in an ancient Unakan language and foretold of another ranger who would bring down the bearer of the one holding the power based on the object that has no escape."
"Your theory is that the third part might be coming true now," Wildrik commented.
"It's just as you said a theory. We won't know until we can investigate further."
During all this Thala was ignoring the conversation between the rangers and was busy kicking Tylai posterior when Jolik accidentally hit the cloaking button on the device on her uniform causing her to come uncloaked. Her sudden appearance caused the Tylai to turn tail and run with Jolik close behind.
"Who are you?" Sita inquired.
"We'll take this up at your base."
"Rangers, is everything under control?" Articula's voice came over the ranger phones."
"We're about to return to base but Sir, there are eleven of us."
"Have your friend port from her current location to the top of the tallest hill and back so I can snag her signature."
"Sir, how can you tell our companion is female?"
"Trust me on this one," Articula said.
Thala then followed Articula's instructions.
"Ok her signature is on file now."
Thala joined the other rangers in a mass port to the base. The Rangers removed their helmets.
"I think it is time for our new friend to reveal her identity," Articula said.
Thala then removed her helmet. Wildrik's mouth fell wide open.
"Will, if your mouth opened any more I'd be able to check it for fossils," Thala joked.
"Thala, what how?"
"You remember the headaches I was having today. When one would strike I would hear the words Power of the Phantom Universe. At first I ignored the words until we were attacked and you morphed suddenly and your call included the words Power of the Gold Galaxy it sort of provided me with a clue. This is what you meant by a life altering headache."
"Yes it is. I wasn't sure if yours could be similar or I would have asked about it."
"So Who are your friends?" Thala inquired noticing how the entire support staff was on hand.
"The Human looking person is our mentor Articula. The floating beach ball is Electronic-Bioassistant Electro Robotic Gyroscope or if you prefer less of a mouthful you can just call him E-Berg. The Alpha Unit is Alpha 238 which I built and that little fleabag is the most annoying creature on four legs which a certain floating beach ball decided to adopt because he was bored and gave my name to is also named Sita," the ranger Sita replied.
"What kind of creature is she?" Thala inquired.
"She is a minartic fox," E-Berg replied. "Would you like some hot chocolate Thala?"
"Certainly E-Berg. I guess you need it in here as cold as it is at least to me."
"Well Fortress Articia sits on a block of ice in the Arctic region of Unaka. Therefore it's kind of hard to heat the place since you would run the risk of melting the very patch if ice on which the base sits."
"I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy being a ranger."
"This calls for a girls only celebration," Xelia said.
"Of what type Xelia?" Thalia inquired.
"Sleepover at my place."
