Katherine Hillard, or Kat as she is known to her friends, sat on her bed, tears still fresh in her eyes as she realized that the one boy that she thought loved her really loved another girl. She had put a compact disc into her stereo system and set the volume to a low, but audible, level. She knew that listening to sad music had always given her some relief from depressing times, and the particular song that she had chosen was not only sad because of the song itself, but because the singer had met an untimely end herself. Katherine recalled the events as if they had only happened moments, instead of a week, ago.
She and her boyfriend Tommy were at the Youth Center with their friends, chowing down on sandwiches and French fries. Suddenly, Kimberly Hart walked inunannounced, falling into hugs and kisses from her teammates. Apparently, her training in Florida had ended, and she was back home in Angel Grove for good. Kim and Tommy went off alone to talk and were gone for a long time. Katherine could only make out a few words between them as she and the others sat some distance away.
"...that letter from Florida..."was what she could make out from Tommy.
"...never sent it. Must have been a prank....." was part of Kim's reply.
The two leaned in closer to each other, and Katherine knew that something was definitely not right about that picture. She could tell by the look on Tommy's face that he finally had a sense of inner peace, and as he and Kim lovingly gazed into each other's eyes, Katherine feared the worst for herself. She ran outside without so much as a word, leaving her friends at the table (Adam, Rocky, Tanya, and Justin) wondering what the problem was. Concerned, Tommy excused himself to go see what the matter was with Katherine.
"Kat!! Are you alright??", he shouted once he was outside behind Katherine. She turned to face him and walked forward to speak.
All, alone
Nothing to do
It's lonely here, without you...
The candlelight is burning low,
Love songs on the radio,
And memories are all I have to show....
"Y-you still love her, don't you?" Katherine questioned sadly.
Photographs
Tickets for two
Promises that all fell through
Now everything's in black and white,
The colors faded with the night,
The stars we used to wish upon
Have somehow lost their light....
"What do you mean?" he asked somewhat aloofly.
Where is the feeling we used to know?
Where is the music that played?
What happened to the love
That you used to show?
Where did the feeling go?
"Tommy, I could tell by the way that you looked at her. And don't try to tell me differently, because I know that you have somehow found peace. Please, tell me the truth." she sighed.
Thoughts of you
Fill my mind
Paperbacks
To pass the time
And as I lie awake tonight,
I'll leave the porchlight burning bright,
And miss the loving arms
That used to hold me tight....
"Y...yes, Kat. I do love her still. I'm sorry." he admitted
Where is the feeling we used to know?
Where is the music that played?
What happened to the love
That you used to show?
Where did the feeling go?
"Please, don't bother trying to explain, Tommy. I won't stop you from being with her." she replied sadly and turned to walk away, for she could not bear to keep him from his first and true love.
Where is the feeling we used to know?
Where is the music that played?
What happened to the love
That you used to show?
Where did the feeling go?
Katherine still sobbed heavily as the door crept open and her friend,
Tanya, walked in. She quickly took Kat into her arms and let her cry.
"Do you wanna talk, Kat?" asked Tanya as the sobbing maiden began to open
her heart to her friend as the song reached it's end.
What happened to the love
That you used to show?
Where did the feeling go???
