I looked up from my plate and found him staring anxiously at me, waiting for my response. At that moment, I wished I was a Sentinel too, so I could just check his breathing and heartrate to see if he was telling the truth, but as it turned out, the truth was written right there in his eyes. He was happy here. He didn't regret leaving Cascade. His worry over me was the only thing keeping him from total contentment.
Boy, did I feel like an ass.
"Let's make a pact, Jim, right here and now. We'll both let go of everything and start enjoying our new life, and we'll quit inadvertently making each other miserable."
