Power Rangers: To The Tenth Power
A Festival Shattered
by Robert and Mistri, Cho's Observer

Saturday, May 20th, 4124 dawned clear and bright on Unaka. And at five o'clock, Fortress Articia was alive with the sounds of reproductive, theological and scatalogical terms being used in contexts entirely unrelated to their literal meanings.

Sita jumped out of the chair, and stormed down to the War Room, cradling a furry animal. She placed it on the table, and faced E-Berg and proceeded to rant.

"I was trying to do something important, and this... this... a word that hasn't been invented yet, but it is one, a complete and total one, jumps in my lap and starts licking my stomach! What the hell is it?"

E-Berg looked sheepishly at Sita. "It's a Minartic Fox. It's only a baby. I took it in, cause I was bored."

"Why was it in my living quarters?"

"It seems to get into everything lately, Sita. Were you sleeping?"

"I was on the verge of getting a workable holoimage," she sighed. "Can you wake me in three hours?" E-Berg nodded, and watched her go.

Adria sighed. The festival was set up and she was waiting to see if her teammates would show up. She really had nothing to do at these festivals anymore, she got out of having to help by doing both her work and her sister's for the two weeks prior to the festival, and her sister would do the festival work, cause she enjoyed it, and then for four days after the festival, her sister would do her own work and Adria's.

Their parents had commended them for figuring out a schedule they both agreed to, and helped in enforcing it. She wandered around, searching for the others. A black, yellow and green flash of light caught her attention.

"Radha, then what happened?" asked Landre.

"Later," Radha said. "Adria! Whatcha doing?"

"Nothing much," she replied. "Just looking around." Sita rummaged around in her bag and pulled out a port belt, and handed it over to Adria.

"What's this?" Adria asked, taking it.

"Port belt, what else?" replied Sita. Adria looked taken aback.

"I can't accept this!"

"We can't always be porting out to get you, Adria," said Radha gently.

"But I'd feel bad about it, you know... "

Sita took her aside, whispered a few things in her ear. The others caught a bit '... Landre... money... live... research... ' Adria seemed to relent at this, and Landre wondered exactly what had Sita said?

"Oh... uh... well... thank you." Sita showed her how to put it on, and they continued looking around. At ten, they were all together, and they observed the exhibits, until they came to the singing arena. Adria hopped up and launched into the first song that came to mind.

When she was done, there was a roar of applause. Adria blushed and stepped down, walking over to Wildrik. He was studying a rock he had absently dug out of the ground. He looked at Sita, and Sita smiled briefly, and then rattled off the entire geological composition of Adria's village. Wildrik nodded, having memorised it instantly.

"Now that I have given my scientific opinion for the day, can we move on?" she asked, snuggling into Isidore.

"You heard the lady," he said. "Let's move on from science and move on to this festival."

"Good idea!" called a voice. They turned around, and saw a warrior. "I'll move in on the festival!" He wore black leather, and carried a whip. He was six and a half feet tall, his hair and eyes hid by a mask.

Sita murmered a few words, and they found themselves frozen for a few seconds. Then to their shock, they appeared a few centimetres away. Sita morphed instantly, the others following her lead. The holoimages dispersed in different areas. And the Rangers leapt into battle against the Tylai, Valdi and Isidore going up against the newest warrior.

"Hey, what's your name?" asked Isidore.

"I am Jolik, famed warrior of the comos!" Jolik proclaimed.

"Really?" asked Valdi. A nice sword appeared in his hand, and he parried a stroke. Isidore spun a staff quickly, and together they began to beat up on Jolik. The others were either trying to beat up on Tylai or escort civilians out.

President Silvino was looking at the Rangers, when Xelia picked him up and carried him away. "Sorry, sir, but if you're going to stare, then I'll have to forcibly move you." His security cracked up laughing, but quit as Landre and Radha picked them up. After a minute of this treatment, President Silvino wanted to be free and calmly walked out of the fiasco.

They returned to beating up the Tylai.

"If those evil fiends think they can ruin my village's festival they have another thing coming," Adria complained as she was attacking a Tylai using hand to hand combat. She the grabbed her hand blaster and took down a few of the Tylai with precision shots.

"These things are a real pain in the you know where," Kylara said as she was shooting a few of them herself, Charda noting how her keen eye for archery seemed to translate down to her hand blaster.

One thing is for sure Kylara is a good shot no matter what weapon she uses.

Just then Adria noticed Jolik's whip was starting to coil around a twelve year old girl. Her neck hairs under her helmet were almost standing up on end as she unsheathed her sword. With a couple careful swipes she released her younger sister.

She wasn't surprised to see Jolik's whip fuse back together where she had cut it.

"Thanks Silver Ranger," the girl said.

"No problem Etara," Adria responded.

The young girl then went off.

"Nice move Adria you probably gave away your identity just now."

"I doubt that. According to some research Sita did our helmets have some kind of voice scrambler. Whatever that means."

"They work by altering our normal vocal patterns in such a way as to disguise what they actually sound like."

Very soon, the Tylai were once more taken care of, and now holoimages of the Rangers ported off, allowing them to demorph. Sita made her excuses and ported off, saying she had an urgent requirement. Landre and Radha, noticing the glint in her eyes, waved her off.

They looked around the festival which restarted quickly.

Sita ported into Fortress Artica, and swore as the cold hit her. Running past the kitchen, she grabbed a hot chocolate from E-Berg, and sat at a table, and yelled for Articula.

"Ah, Sita? What is it?" Articula asked.

"Communications, what did the Rangers use for communications?" she asked.

"Well, the first Rangers through to Turbo had wrist communicators. Space Rangers communicated through their morphers. Galaxy, LightSpeed Rescue, I think did the same. Time Force had holoimages from their morphers. Wild Force used their Growl Phones."

"I need ten wrist phones," she said, absently. Articula silently passed them over, and Sita set to work.

The festival wound down earlier than normal, due to the attack. But the nine Rangers continued to look around, and offered their help to pack up. Sita ported back to their group, carrying a small bag.

Not much was said as the group covered stalls and picked up rubbish. Finally they were done, and walking back to Adria's house, Sita opened her bag, and tossed a wrist phone to everyone.

"It's been altered," said Sita. "Secure channel, no one can pick up on it. And no, Xelia, you can't make personal calls on it, you'll need another wrist phone, a normal one." Xelia closed her mouth, astonished.

Adria took it without hesitation this time. "You guys wanna bunk down at my place?" she asked, hesitant. "We've still got tomorrow to get through... "

"And there could be an attack, best we're all together," mused Valdi. "Okay, we'll stay. If it's not an inconvenience?" Adria shook her head.

"Shouldn't be. We have a reasonably large house... if you don't mind 20th century Japanese sleeping mats and blankets?"

"Tatame," responded Sita. "Anything's got to be better than the backseat of Landre's car." So the ten Rangers bunked down for the night, unaware of what would happen the next day.

It dawned brightly, and the Rangers woke up, and immediately headed off to the festival once more, hunting for breakfast. And no sooner than they were filled, did Dani and Jolik appear. Once more the holoimages appeared and they morphed.

"Wasn't yesterday enough?" snarled Adria. Dani shook her head and she and Jolik combined sword and whip. Instantly, they grew in size and gazed down at the Rangers. They looked at each other, helplessly.

Suddenly, Radha looked out towards the star that was Earth. "Mistress of Athens, I beeseech thee, taketh pity and help me now."

Sita looked towards the fields of Adria's village. "Goddess of the Harvest, I have planted my seeds, taketh pity and help me now."

Wildrik looked to the sky. "Messenger of the Gods, here is my message, taketh pity and help me now."

Landre gazed upon the distant sea. "Ruler of the Sea, within your waters, taketh pity and help me now."

Adria looked to her house. "Goddess of the Hearth, the fire is stoked, taketh pity and help me now."

Xelia looked at her friends. "Protectress of Youth, we were once young, taketh pity and help me now."

Charda and Kylara clasped hands. "God of Love, Goddess of Love, we have love for each other, taketh pity and help us now."

Isidore looked at the two rampaging villains. "God of War, I must now enter into war, taketh pity and help me now."

Valdi stretched out his arms. "God of gods and men! Look upon your people! Taketh pity and help me now!"

In ten streaks of light, ten Zords appeared before them. Charda and Kylara leapt into Eros and Aphrodite respectively, Isidore to Ares. Radha and Sita jumped to Athena and Demeter, Wildrik to Hermes. Landre and Adria ascended to Poseidon and Hestia, Xelia to Artemis. And Valdi ran to Zeus.

Radha, Kylara, Sita, Adria and Xelia shouted in unison, "Protectress of Marriage! MegaZord engage!" In a flash of light, Hera stood before Dani, a twin bladed lance in her hands.

Valdi, Isidore, Charda, Wildrik, and Landre shouted, "God of Light and Truth! MegaZord engage!" In a flash of light, Apollo stood before Jolik, a mace held by a hand.

The two villains looked on, amusement evident in their eyes, and then the two MegaZords descended into battle. Each fought furiously, but before long, the two villains grew tired and left. They then ported to Fortress Articia.

"The festival was ruined," complained Adria, ripping off her helmet. "About the only chance most of us get to really interact with the rest of Unaka, and it was ruined!" She looked towards Articula, who only sighed.

"I'm sorry, but that's how villains usually work. They attack large gatherings, or important places, or even highly populated areas. Now, it may have ruined today, but you at least had yesterday, correct?" Adria conceded, but it still bothered her.

"Those Zords were cool," said Valdi eagerly. "But what exactly were they?"

"Gods and goddesses of Greek Mythology," replied Sita. "Go home and look 'em up. I am NOT a walking encyclopedia." Everyone looked at her. "Maybe I am, Grid knows I know everything about everything," she sighed. "But you are still going home and researching them."

The others laughed, but quietened as Articula began speaking.

"Now that they have estimated our strength, the attacks may become more frequent, but going by previous battles of the Rangers, at most three a week, if we're lucky. We're entering a time of uncertaincy, because the ball is always in the Nameless One's court. We must always be prepared for the worst to happen, Rangers."

They all looked at each other.

Wildrik stepped forward, placing his hand out. "I'm in. For Unaka."

Adria was next, placing her hand on top of Wildrik's. "So am I. For our families."

Isidore came up, and joined the three. "You can count on me. For us."

Kylara edged in. "I'll be there. For friendship."

Valdi slapped his hand down. "Not even a question. For freedom."

Radha gently squeezed in. "I agree. For love."

Landre got up. "Same goes for me. For those who went before us."

Xelia moved in. "I'll do it. For hope."

Charda took his position. "I as well. For life."

Sita took the last place, smiling softly. "Then it's settled. For all we hold dear."

And then, they took their places in the history books, as they executed the timeless move. In a fast move, they brought their hands down and then as they jumped, they brought their hands up into the air.

"POWER RANGERS!"
