Power Rangers: To The Tenth Power
Enemy Ranger
by Robert and Mistri, Cho's Observer

It was June 2nd. Sita Lynch, Black Unakan Ranger, was putting the final touches to her first 'proper' project. Finally satisfied with her programming, she pressed a big black button that said 'REBOOT', and closed the back. She stepped back and surveyed the unit.

It activated. "Ai yi yi yi yi! Why have I been dormant for so long?"

"Alpha 238," said Sita. "You've just been activated. However, you have all the memories of previous Alphas. So yes, you would think you've been dormant. You're the Alpha series android for Fortress Articia, base of the Unakan Rangers."

Suddenly, the Minartic Fox jumped on Sita's head. "Oh, let well alone, for Grid's sake!!" she shrieked. "I've had it with you!! You may tell the others at this base, that I've gone for a walk!!" And she ported out, cursing that Fox to hell and back.

She had no sooner arrived at her destination then Dani arrived. Sita morphed instantly, activating her holoimage.

"What are you looking for this time?"

"I want to talk, Black Ranger. But I think perhaps in a better setting." Dani grabbed her hand, and they were suddenly at the edge of the deserts.

"Talk, Dani," snapped Sita. "Or I will kick your ass." Dani assumed an appearance of a young woman in her early thirties, and Sita demorphed, keeping alert. She did however, pull her daggers from her wrists.

"Sita Lynch," said Dani. "Wonder how you can do that? Just take your daggers from your wrists as if they are part of you?"

"No," replied Sita, twirling them. Dani said nothing, but pulled her own sword out of her wrist.

"Sita, you're not fully human," she said bluntly. "You're half human, half of the race of Islei, who are known for their ability to summon whatever weapon they want by simply drawing it out of their body. You remember Ransik? Well, his mutant status allowed him to do that same thing. He was not Islei. But since you're half, you have a limited weapons storage. Daggers, sword, spear and bow are all you could summon."

"Oh, brilliant," said Sita sarcastically. "And you needed to tell me that because?"

"No one else was going to tell you, because no one else knew," replied Dani. "You may encounter several difficulties because you are Islei."

"And you care, why?"

"Even evil beings have some sense of honor," replied Dani. "Only I knew this of you, and I do not wish to see you incapacitated. Even if you are my enemy."

"Rangers, teleport and give Sita backup!" cried E-Berg.

"We're on it. Ranger Astro Morph!"

All eight available Rangers arrived to hear Sita snap, "And why is that, may I ask?"

"Because Sita, dear. I'm your mother," Dani said. Sita looked at her incredulously. The Rangers stood stock still at this revelation, unconsciously stepping away.

"Oh. Well, Mother, you may take your motherly advice and shove it where the sun don't shine." Sita tapped her port belt and disappeared. Dani rose, and with a look at her scabbard, she discarded it. She didn't need to hide the truth anymore. She tossed a sheaf of papers to the Red Ranger, and disappeared.

"Come on guys," Valdi said. "Let's go back."

Sita had ported to her rooms, and was lying on the bed, absently scratching the Minartic Fox. She was just... numb. That... Dani was her mother? She felt betrayed.

A knock at her door startled her, and she called, "Come in." Articula, E-Berg, and the eight Rangers entered, and she looked blankly at them. "What do you want?" she asked in a voice devoid of anything. They looked at her, concerned.

"Sita, what happened out there?" asked Articula.

"Oh, nothing. Unless you count being told you're half Islei, and that your enemy you happen to be fighting is your mother as something."

"Sita. You're not talking rationally," said Isidore.

"Would you be if you were in my position?" she snapped. Valdi stepped forward and dumped the papers on her lap, and stepped back to his place. Sita began to flick through them absently.

"What do I do now?" she asked.

"Go kick Dani's butt?" suggested Charda.

"Unmorphed?" Sita asked. "You forget. I haven't been able to morph since she dumped her news on me."

"How could I forget? I never knew!" protested Charda. His face darkened. "You're kidding, right? Please tell me you're kidding."

"I'm kidding," said Sita with a straight face.

"Sita," said Articula warningly. "I don't think now is the time for your humor. Can you morph, yes or no?"

"No." The word hung there. "I've tried, and it's just not worked."

Valdi left, along with the other Rangers. Once away from Sita's room, they turned and faced each other.

"She betrayed us. I'm hereby ordering all Rangers to have no contact with Sita until she has been dealt with. Do you hear?" Their eyes all flashed subtlety.

"We hear and obey, Lord Valdi."

June 3rd. Sita woke up, and tapped her communicator to talk to Radha, but she couldn't get through. Same with all the other Rangers. She understood not being able to talk to Wildrik, but the others were not occupied. She sighed, and went through the papers Dani had given her.

Later that day, Wildrik ported in.

"Sita! What's doing?" he asked.

She explained to him what had happened, and he nodded slowly. He appeared to be thinking hard.

"Well, it's not your fault you're related to that scum. What have the others said?"

"Nothing at all, they won't talk to me," sighed Sita.

"That does not sound like Isidore, Radha and Landre, from what I've been told and observed," muttered Wildrik. "Can we scan them for a spell?"

"Yeah, I think we can," said Sita. "But why?"

"Well, spells were a favourite of Rita, Zedd and Mondo. Although I can't remember if what I think were Mondo's spells were not spells but something else with the same results," said Wildrik, thoughtfully.

"The Machine Empire used mind control, usually through machine implants," recited Sita. "Rita and Zedd used spells."

"That's right," said Wildrik. "I forget that Mondo was the Machine Empire, since most of the attackers were organic. Except for the demons, but at least Vypra looked human."

"You remember that Ryan Mitchell, Titanium LightSpeed was under Diabolico's control for most of his life, due to Diabolico warping the way he thought about Captain Mitchell and Dana? There's no evidence to suggest that Vypra was just a human with extraordinary powers. But there's no evidence suggesting that she was just a demon with a human appearance." By now they had come to the consoles and Sita inputted the scan details.

A beep was heard, and the results flashed across the room.

"Articula!" yelled Wildrik. When he came, they showed the results to him.

"Hmm. Alpha? Perhaps you may know of a way to break this spell?"

After Alpha had looked at it, he said, "I think, recalling previous similar spells, that this spell is tied in with Sita's inability to morph. If Sita can morph again, then the spell may be broken."

"What's preventing me from morphing, then?" asked Sita, angrily.

"You, simply," answered Articula. "I think you are focusing too much on Dani's news and questioning yourself as a result. Stop it, and you should be able to morph."

Sita ported out, to go think. As a matter of course, she ran into Jolik, who was firing on a bunch of children. Not to hurt, but to keep them there, for amusement purposes. She raced for him, a black blur and withdrawing a sword, she began to fight him, unmorphed.

Unfortunately, she was not good enough unmorphed, and soon was on the defensive, getting beaten down. She collapsed, and Jolik delivered the final blow.

Landing on a black Ranger suit. In nine flashes, the other Rangers appeared, morphed. They soon sent Jolik packing.

"Thanks," said Sita.

"Don't worry," said Radha. "Not a problem."

And with that, everything that needed to be said, was.
